Carpet Stain Removers Tips
Carpets bring a lot of warmth and beauty to your home but when they are stained they become an embarrassment. Stains happen to even the most fastidious persons and even though there are many products that claim they are miracle atcarpet stain removers, there is usually still an ugly stain lingering. You can remove a patch of carpet containing the permanent stain and replace it with a new carpet piece but the patch of carpet will be noticeable. Happily, with some know-how and a few basic tools quick action using carpet stain removers specific to the nature of the stain will bring about excellent results.
For most stains that will leave an odor, some good old elbow grease and a mixture of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle works well. Natural cleaners are just as effective and sometimes more so than the most expensive chemical cleaners. This is a mixture that is good for all kinds of cleaning needs around the home including the stain on your carpet. For spills, take a clean soft cloth and just gently touch the spill until you have taken up as much as possible so that you will not spread the stain. For grease stains you can use a solution of lukewarm water and some dish washing soap. Add this to the vinegar water and mix it together. You can just scrub the solution into the stained area and when you get bubbles you can keep spraying it with clear water to rinse away the residue.
After using any carpet cleaning solutions it is always a good idea to use portable steam cleaners and go over a large section or the entire rug so that the carpet will blend together. Sometimes the area where you scrubbed and removed a stain will end up being lighter than the rest of the carpet just because it is cleaner. If the carpet dries and you can see a difference in the cleaned area then you will need to shampoo the entire carpet.
Other carpet stain removers that you can use not just on your carpet but on your clothing as well, is club soda. This works on food or drink spills. For really wet and fresh stains like spilled drinks you can use a clean dry cloth to blot the stain and get the moisture out. Some of the stain will be removed by doing this and then using just a small amount of club soda you can work it into the stain and let it fizz. The carbonation of the soda reacts with the stain. Do not soak the stain with the soda; just use a small amount over the top of the stain. Leave the club soda to set for fifteen minutes or so and on old stains up to half an hour. After the soda has set you can rub or scrub in circular motions until the stain disappears. Don’t rub so much that you ruin the nap of the carpet. To finish you can use a soft clean cloth to absorb any remaining moisture.
If the drink spilled happens to be wine, the club soda solution will also be effective. The carpet stain removers already mentioned like dish soap diluted with water will also work. You can try using boiling water directly on the stain and then sprinkle salt. Use a clean cloth to blot the area and remove the moisture.
